Gakked from the f-list (because I still don't feel like moving off the sofa):

You Are a Brain
You excel at anything difficult or high tech.
In other words, you're a total (brilliant) geek.
It's difficult for you to find people worth spending time with.
Which is probably why you'll take over the world with your evil robots!

Your strength: Your unfailing logic

Your weakness: Loving machines more than people

Your power color: Tan

Your power symbol: Pi

Your power month: July

Huh... I really can't say that I agree with the whole "loving machines more than people thing" or the color, but I'm totally loving the power symbol.

I know I'm late to the party, but I wanted to join the many others who have already wished [info]unfolded73  a happy birthday!

I've had so much fun working with you on some of your fics - public humiliation in the name of literature notwithstanding - and getting to know you through lj.  I hope your day so far has been birthdayrific, and that the rest of it is even better.

And just for you, a pic of the other Doctor I know you love:

According to this article www.kasterborous.com/news.asp at Kasterborous David Tennant and Catherine Tate are going to be filling in for Jonathan Ross this Saturday and their guest is going to be John Barrowan.  If this is true, I can't wait to hear it.  Has anyone else heard about this?

Okay, I'm at work and I should be doing work things, but I needed to take a little break - I mean come on, it is Saturday after all.  Wait, it is Saturday, isn't? I get so thrown off when there's a holiday on a Monday... Anyway, back to the point of this post - I was taking a break and was just doing a random news search when I came across the following article in the Guardian that reminded me of something [info]jlrpuck posted a little while back:

Pride and Predator to give Jane Austen an extreme makeover

The new film from Elton John's Rocket Pictures will have the seven-foot extraterrestrial give the characters from Pride and Prejudice something more immediate to worry about than making advantageous marriages

It might prove something of a boon to those who reach for the remote control when yet another costume drama comes on television: Elton John's Rocket Pictures is developing a new spin on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, this time featuring a nefarious seven-foot extraterrestrial with hideous mandibles and a penchant for human blood. Yes, it's Pride and Predator.

Will Clark, best known for his award-winning gothic comedy short The Amazing Trousers, will direct the film, which is being produced by Rocket partners Steve Hamilton Shaw and David Furnish.

"It felt like a fresh and funny way to blow apart the done-to-death Jane Austen genre by literally dropping this alien into the middle of a costume drama, where he stalks and slashes to horrific effect," Furnish told Variety.

Both Pride and Prejudice and Predator have been twisted into a variety of new forms over the past two decades. Gurinder Chadha's 2004 musical Bride and Prejudice saw Austen's romance transplanted in Bollywood, while Alien vs Predator saw the monster from John McTiernan's 1987 original taking on Ridley Scott's murderous horrors.

The news does come as something of a surprise, however, as 20th Century Fox had reportedly been planning a solo reboot for its Predator franchise, following critical scorn for 2007's Aliens vs Predator – Requiem.

Rocket isn't averse to adding its own spin to iconic titles: it also has the animated Shakespeare spoof Gnomeo and Juliet in the works, featuring the voice of James McAvoy as a lovelorn pixie.

Can someone please explain to me what is wrong with these people? *sigh* I'm going back to work.

I hope you have a fantastic day, week, month and year!

I also want to thank you for giving me something to look forward to every week for the last year since I started reading your fics, and thank you for encouraging me to become involved in the lj community, which led me to meet so many of the fantastic people that reside here.

The last couple of months have been a bit rough, but things are getting better, slowly but surely.  My friend P has been fantastically supportive lately, listening to my endless and ridiculous rants.  I also have to thank [info]xebgoc for the dvds she sent me, going above and beyond the call of duty for someone she barely knows.  It's been DT 24/7 in this apartment since those dvds arrived in the mail my dear, and you have no idea the amount of undignified squeeling that has been going on because of it. (Cupid has been running in a loop in my head - I can't shake it no matter what I do!)  Then, perhaps as a sign that things will start getting better, I received the following email today:

The following items have been shipped to you by Amazon.com:

Of course, if my reaction to watching PiC last night is any indication, I'll be crying like a baby re-watching series four knowing what happens to Donna and with Rose.  But I can't wait for the extras, and that's the whole point of the dvds anyway, isn't it?

Patrick Stewart on Dr. Who?

Has anyone else seen this article, or know if this is a reliable source?

www.comicmix.com/news/2008/10/07/patrick-stewart-may-make-it-so/

This article combined with the rumors of Dr. Who being filmed in the States and the rumors of DT and PS bringing Hamlet to Broadway almost make it seem plausible.  If all true, DT and PS would have to come to NY in advance of Hamlet for rehearsals, and the Dr. Who crew could come over to do some fiming while they were in rehearsals or even while the show was running - it's not completely unheard of for actors to work on more than one project at a time.  But this is probably just all wishful thinking on my part, isn't it?

1) Post a list of five things you currently love/like, and five things you currently hate/dislike.
2) They can be people, places, things, ideas, whatever.
3) Tag five people to do this

Five Things I Love/Like:
1.  My job - I know, not a typical answer but I really do enjoy being a lawyer. I think it stems from being an only child growing up in a, let's say passionate, italian household - I like to argue and I like to win. Probably not the best of character traits, but it works. *shrugs*

2. My red & yellow chucks with the red skulls on the inside - they look like clown shoes. I laugh everytime I wear them and so does everyone that sees me, I mean, look at them:

3. My friends, N who I've known since we were 5; P & J who made college a joy; L & S who made law school bearable; and those of you I've met through the HP and Dr. Who fandoms, who have succeeded in making me laugh out loud and cry at the most inappropriate of times.

4. My dogs Thelma and Louise and my cat Cosmo.

5. NYC - this City is just so alive, it never gets boring and always has a surprise for you around the corner.

Five Things I Hate/Dislike:
1. Liars - Didn't expect to hear someone in my profession say that did you? But honestly, in day-to-day life I don't get it. What's the point? The truth always winds up coming out eventually and then things are just that much worse for holding back, it's much easier to fix things if you know about them right away.

2. Smug, Condescending attitudes - Ok, I get it, you have a small penis. Next!

3. Insects, worms and sundry creepy crawlies - I've had too many experiences growing up in upstate NY with getting worms or beetles or locust getting caught in my hair to have any tolerance for these things.

4. Waste - money, resources, time, education, etc. There's no reason for it, especially when there are so many people who need.

5. Tom Cruise - extraterrestrial, right? This one is not so much hate or dislike as much as it is an extreme creepy factor, kinda like #3.

Ok, I don't have five people to tag, but I'll tag: [info]earlgreytea68 , [info]xebgoc  and [info]unfolded73

1. List your top seven character ships
2. Put all of them in order of your love for them; 7 to 1, 1 being your main fixation.
3. Name the movie/show that they're in.
4. Supply photos for said people.
5. Tag seven people.

Funny, at first I didn’t think I’d be able to come up with seven OTPs, but then I kept coming up with more and more that I had a hard time narrowing it down to my favorites. The hardest part was trying to put these in any type of order. I might have cheated a bit, two of these are ships from books, but they were turned into movies so that counts, right?

I think I might have gone a little overboard on some of the pics…

Top seven here... )

Ok, I’m not going to tag anyone, but if anyone who sees this is interested, please feel free to play along.

Yay Friday!

Thankfully the first week back from vacation is over. I didn't get anything done that I needed to, but somethings were accomplished and some disasters were avoided, so it wasn't a complete waste of a week.

I took this picture just before I left work from our office balcony looking north over the East River at the Brooklyn Bridge and the Delancy Street Bridge. I just love that cloud formation...

Yeah...

As of today I am officially on vacation for one week. Ugh... Maybe it's just me, and I'm sure by tomorrow I'll be over this feeling, but right now my feeling is that I would much rather avoid the manic running around and stress of  the week before said vacation than actually go on vacation. I think that this week just snuck up on me, where did July go? I have a hard time believing that next week is August already, it doesn't seem fair. But maybe I'll have more warning before my next break at the end of August. Yeah, I know, wishful thinking...

It isn't really even a vacation considering the amount of work I brought with me. Right now I'm just sitting waiting to hear from a client about changes to make to some papers that have to be filed by 9:30am on Monday, and it's such a beautiful morning. I guess I could just grab the crackberry and go for a walk until I hear from him. Then there's a wedding to attend this evening. *sigh* Not really in the mood for that, especially since it's going to be a bunch of people from work that I see everyday. Like I said before, ugh...

But, on the bright side, I'll finally get to see the new batman and x-files movies. A friend of my got me hooked on the Dark Knight comics my freshman year at college, and I've been an xphile, M/S shipper since day one when Squirrel had Moose looking a mosquito bites on her back by candle light. SQUEEEE! Then, I'll also get to go kayaking for a few days, maybe take some pictures to post while I'm on the river, before heading down to the Atlantic City area to spend a few days with friends. So overall, it will be a relaxing week, but it may have been even more so if the stress factor hadn't be multiplied by 10 this last week. Oh well, I'll get over it and just enjoy myself, once I finish the work I brought with me... *sigh*

Seriously?

Madmartigan

I'm going on vacation next week, which means that I have two major projects that have to be finished by Friday afternoon so I can get out of the office in time to: (1) get a manicure (not something I would normally do, but I'm going to wedding on Saturday and felt that I should appear somewhat presentable), (2) go to the dry cleaner to pick-up my dress for said wedding, (3) grab all my luggage, (4) get to the car rental agency and (5) drive to the hotel in NJ next to the country club where the wedding is taking place.  However, given the fact that the highway department in NJ likes to play games with non-natives by posting road signs after you've already passed the exit, I am hopeful that if I leave Friday night I will arrive in time for the Saturday night wedding.

Of course, knowing that I will not be in the office next week, and have these projects due, the powers that be thought it would be a good idea to have me out of the office all day today meeting with clients. [insert heavy sarcasm here]  The first meeting this morning lasted a little over two hours, and was held at The Soho House (http://www.sohohouseny.com/), which is the US version of an English club and spa. What it ireally is, is an old warehouse that was completely gutted down to the brick walls and wood floors that they now charge anywhere from $400/night to $1,500/night to stay in a room where the bathtub is literally two feet from the foot of your bed (which closely resembles a futon) in a room that is furnished with "antique" furniture from the 60s. Is this really the current idea of luxury? I don't know what the "Houses" located in London and Somerset are like, but this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

After that painfully long meeting, it was on to Long Island for a lunch meeting with another group of clients.  Now, I understand that this is part of the business and needs to be done, but there was absolutely no talk about work and what it is we do/can do for these people.  Instead, I had a two hour conversation about cruises in the Caribbean only to be interrupted by the cry of "Crotch-Rot" from the opposite end of the table.  Honest to god, one of clients seated at the opposite end of the table felt the need to shout at the top of her lungs that Billy Joel walks around like he has crotch-rot.  Well that brought conversation to a screeching halt.  Obviously, we're dealing with very high class, professional individuals here. Whatever.  Of course, I can't let that go, so when said client starts going on about her tickets to the Madonna concert I felt the need to tell the table that Madonna is looking more and more like the transvestites that impersonate her.  I know, I know, but I couldn't help myself.

But the inappropriateness doesn't stop there, oh no.  Next thing you know the loud client gets a phone call that she leaves the table to take.  When she comes back she announces that her 15 year old son, who is on a group tour of San Fransico and the surrounding area, called to tell her that he made out with a girl for the first time the night before. WTF?!?  Once again, conversation screeches to a halt.  Just as the silence is reaching the awkward point, my boss leans forward and asks, with a completely serious face, if it was with the 40 year old tour guide leading the youth group.  Hah!  I think I may have falled in love with my boss a little bit at that point.

So yeah, to sum up, nothing got accomplished today other than me getting a headache, and knowing that I will likely spend all day in the office tomorrow until some ridiculous hour trying to catch up and get everything done in time for vacation.  Ugh.  In the meantime, I will just stare at this pic, which is the wallpaper on my work computer, and remind myself that shortly I will be there:

This is the view from our porch looking east over the Hudson River to the Catskill Mountains. *bliss*

Here Goes Nothing...

I've been lurking and skulking about other people's lj's reading their fanfic in the HP and DW fandoms for the last few years and feeling guilty about never leaving a comment, so I finally decided to bite the bullet and sign-up.  I'll give this lj thing a try and see what comes of it, maybe nothing, maybe something...

For now, I just want to say how much I love living and working in NYC - last night when I left work I was treated to a spectacular fireworks display right in front of my building, no idea what the occassion was, put I was able to catch a couple of pics one my phone (please ignore the random heads that appear in the photos):

How cool is that?  Made an otherwise tedious and annoying day end on a high note at least.

Well, that's all for now... let's see what happens.
